The Code on Social Security, 2020 subsumes the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948, and the Central Government notified the Social Security Code (Central) Rules, 2026 on 8 May 2026. Under the transition provisions, the existing ESI Act rules, regulations and schemes — including the Employees’ State Insurance (General) Regulations, 1950 — continue to apply for a one-year transition window running to 20 November 2026, alongside the new wage definition that took effect 21 November 2025. This page exists so that research about the current Code sections and final 2026 Central Rules is written once (in the L3 Social Security Code hub) rather than being re-derived inside the older, still-live 1950 Regulations repository (L5) — and so that historic ESI events researched under the 1950 citation keep their original date rather than being silently rewritten to the new Code framing.
Do not duplicate Code or Rule text in the Regulation repository. Do not treat the approved framing of 2026 Regulations as a final replacement. Old-event research must retain the historic 1950 citation and event date.
