E-commerce & D2C Brand
Practical India guide to E-commerce & D2C Brand: approvals, setup, operating controls, taxes, cash flow, risks, closure, 28 FAQs and editable tools.
General business education. Use the activity, location and transaction facts for legal and tax decisions; illustrative figures are not promised returns.
The two-minute answer
First decision — Import skincare or food. Check cosmetics/Drugs & Cosmetics or FSSAI import and label regimes, importer-of-record, customs HS, and any product standards; a seller GST registration is not product clearance. Second decision — Private-label electronics. Test BIS/QCO and wireless/e-waste obligations where applicable; get regulatory responsibility allocated in manufacturing agreements before launch. Then execute — Classify every SKU before supplier order. Build a product master with HSN, manufacturer/importer, country of origin, label and weights, shelf life, safety category, MRP and compulsory certification status. A generic e-commerce licence cannot replace product-specific approvals. Know the first escalation — BIS/QCO non-compliant item discovered. Stop listings and dispatch, isolate stock, confirm notification/product scope, document supplier corrective action and contact competent product regulator where required. Save a dated licence/authority determination, responsible owner, signed contract, evidence reference and next review date at every material step. This is the minimum practical answer before committing capital or promising a customer outcome.
Choose your exact model before applying
| Operating model | How it changes compliance | Minimum evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Own-brand D2C manufacturer | The brand may also be the manufacturer, packer or importer and must evidence product conformity. | Bill of material, BIS/QCO screening, packaging and complaint register |
| Marketplace seller | Seller GST, operator tax collection and returns data must reconcile against the marketplace ledger. | GST account, seller statements, commission and returns ledger |
| Marketplace operator | Operating a platform can create separate GST TCS/section 9(5), grievance and consumer disclosure obligations. | Seller onboarding policy, transaction audit trail, operator registration |
Six practical steps — registration to operation
Classify the product and responsible legal person
Build a SKU matrix with HS code, ingredients/materials, manufacturer, importer, packer, unit size and claims. Determine if it is food, cosmetics, electrical goods, toys, drugs or another regulated category. A D2C store cannot solve a BIS or product-safety defect merely by adding a disclaimer.
Choose entity, brand ownership and contracts
Secure the business identity, vendor/manufacturer agreement, brand/trademark position, terms of sale, return/refund policy and courier loss allocation. Ensure manufacturing warranties, defect traceability, recall cooperation and consumer complaint data can be obtained from suppliers.
Verify mandatory product rules before listing
Check BIS compulsory certification/QCO implementation dates for each product, Legal Metrology packaged commodity declarations, import labelling, sector-specific FSSAI or Drugs and Cosmetics permissions where applicable. Maintain one evidence folder per SKU and do not infer “BIS approved” from a supplier advertisement.
Model GST by route and role
Distinguish own-site sales, marketplace sales, B2B wholesale, inter-State goods movements, exempt items and operator-facilitated notified services. Check CGST section 24 registration triggers and available relaxation notifications for marketplace sellers instead of relying only on the general turnover threshold. Reconcile TCS credits, returns, credit notes and inventory.
Build privacy, payments and customer service controls
Disclose seller identity and material terms, manage paid ads and endorsements responsibly, prevent misleading scarcity or subscription flows, restrict marketing consents and protect order/customer records. For the DPDP Act and Rules, check staggered commencement dates rather than describing every obligation as already operative in October 2026.
Run daily fulfilment and return analytics
Measure gross orders, cancellations, return-to-origin, marketplace deductions, last-mile cost, advertising cost of acquisition and actual refunds. Segregate marketing acquisition cost from repeat purchase margin; retention may matter more than a high headline gross merchandise value.
Regulatory applicability and authority matrix
| Statute / regulator | What triggers it | What to verify | Keep on file |
|---|---|---|---|
| BIS and sectoral QCOs | The exact product, standard and implementation date determine compulsory certification. | Screen SKU-by-SKU before buying inventory. | Applicable QCO/certification records |
| Packaged commodity and consumer disclosure | Products supplied in packs and online displays must follow applicable declarations. | Check physical label and listing against category/pack rules. | Label proof, seller disclosures, complaints |
| CGST Act e-commerce provisions | Marketplace sale/operator status, TCS and specified notified supplies. | Map registration, invoicing and reconciliation by route. | GSTIN, marketplace statement, GSTR trail |
| DPDP Act/Rules with phased commencement | Collecting buyer addresses, telephone numbers, payments and ad identifiers. | Plan minimisation, processor terms and requests by enforcement date. | Data map, consent records, vendor agreements |
GST, income tax and cash-recognition decisions
| Transaction / obligation | Assessment and treatment |
|---|---|
| Own-site goods | Verify HSN/rate, place of supply and invoice treatment by SKU. |
| Marketplace sales | Do not confuse TCS with final output GST; reconcile seller and operator information. |
| Returned goods | Credit note and ITC/reversal questions depend on statutory time windows and actual documents. |
| Profit income | Treat gross sales net of genuine refunds separately from marketplace remittances; apply 2025 Income-tax Act for 2026-27. |
Forms, registers and evidence checklist
| Document / record | What to include | Owner / authority |
|---|---|---|
| Product register | SKU to HSN, sector licence, BIS order and manufacturer identity | Product file |
| Mandatory labels | Packaged commodity fields, warnings, shelf-life where prescribed | Approved artwork |
| Marketplace agreement | Commission, GST/TCS, returns, customer funds and settlement | Contract |
| Customer policies | Shipping, cancellation, refund, grievance and privacy | Website policies |
| Financial audit trail | Orders, returns, settlement, ad spend, tax and stock | ERP / sales ledger |

Financial model: revenue, profit and cash are different
| Input or result | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly volume | 2,200 retained orders | Retained, accepted or billable output—not merely enquiries/dispatches |
| Realised price | ₹900 | Net of refunds and indirect tax |
| Variable cost per unit | ₹630 | Direct cash costs allocated to the same billable unit |
| Fixed operating cash cost | ₹450,000 | Excludes depreciation, finance charges and income tax |
| Contribution per unit | ₹270 | Price minus variable unit cost |
| Break-even volume | 1,667 retained orders | Fixed cost ÷ contribution, rounded up |
| Capacity utilisation | 44.0% | Volume ÷ illustrative safe/saleable capacity |
Worked calculation: 2,200 × (₹900 − ₹630) = ₹594,000 contribution; less ₹450,000 fixed cash costs leaves ₹144,000 before financing, depreciation, tax and capital expenditure. A 10% fall in volume alone reduces contribution by ₹59,400. A 10% rise in unit variable cost alone reduces it by ₹138,600.
High dispatch volume can conceal return-to-origin losses
A D2C seller celebrates a rising dispatch count while cash-on-delivery orders increasingly return unopened. Marketplace advertising and forward freight are paid immediately, but reverse freight, damaged packaging and delayed settlements are recognised later.
Work through the decision
Track a cohort from order acceptance through delivery, return expiry and final settlement. Allocate forward and reverse freight, payment fees, advertising, discounts, restocking and unusable returns to that cohort. Distinguish saleable inventory returned to stock from a loss. Maintain a SKU compliance file before introducing a different product category.
What to establish before proceeding
Approve a channel using collected contribution after returns, not gross merchandise value. Set a maximum affordable return-to-origin exposure from the cash forecast, and investigate customer/address or delivery failures without unfairly denying genuine consumer remedies.
| Operating measure | Definition and use |
|---|---|
| Delivered-cohort contribution | Collected net sales minus product, advertising, fulfilment, reverse-logistics and payment costs for the same order cohort. |
| Return recovery ratio | Value actually recovered from returned stock relative to its original cost; exclude goods awaiting inspection. |
| Cash-conversion interval | Days between supplier payment and final customer/platform settlement after return adjustments. |
This example is Finin2min’s operating analysis. Its commercial assumptions are not quoted market terms or a permit determination.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- One generic GST rate for every SKU. The notified schedule applies by classification and supply date.
- Treating marketplace remittance as turnover. Fees, TCS and refunds make the cash received different from sales.
- Unverified safety certification claim. Confirm product-specific BIS/QCO before “certified” marketing.
- Consent without purpose or retention discipline. Marketing and fulfilment data serve different purposes.
Practical 30/60/90-day implementation plan
| Period | Specific milestone |
|---|---|
| Days 1–30 | Select a narrow SKU range and map product, packaging and supplier-document requirements before buying stock. |
| Days 31–60 | Test fulfilment, failed delivery, return inspection and payment reconciliation using real pilot orders. |
| Days 61–90 | Reprice or stop loss-making SKU-channel combinations after the full return and settlement cycle has matured. |

Which business model changes the legal answer?
| Situation | Exact action and proof of decision |
|---|---|
| Import skincare or food | Check cosmetics/Drugs & Cosmetics or FSSAI import and label regimes, importer-of-record, customs HS, and any product standards; a seller GST registration is not product clearance. |
| Private-label electronics | Test BIS/QCO and wireless/e-waste obligations where applicable; get regulatory responsibility allocated in manufacturing agreements before launch. |
| Marketplace fulfilment stock in another State | Evaluate additional GST registration/stock movement and warehouse location under current GST law, not merely the customer destination. |
| Use international online ads | Evaluate import of service, reverse charge, foreign remittance evidence and withholding based on contract, payer and actual tax law. |
| Automatic subscriptions | Check clear auto-renewal consent, invoice chronology, cancellation workflow and prohibition on misleading dark patterns. |
| Buy followers and testimonials | Risk misleading representations and consumer protection action; use genuine, evidenced product performance claims. |
Complete execution SOP: what to do, in order
Classify every SKU before supplier order
Build a product master with HSN, manufacturer/importer, country of origin, label and weights, shelf life, safety category, MRP and compulsory certification status. A generic e-commerce licence cannot replace product-specific approvals.
Design the merchant and payment flow
Separate own-site merchant-of-record sales, marketplace sales, drop-shipping, inventory ownership and fulfilment partner. Record where title, risk, invoice and money change hands; determine registered places of business and stock locations.
Validate consumer display disclosures
Check Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities rules, return timelines, mandatory product declarations and genuine review/advertisement practices. Test each mobile product screen and checkout for missing material disclosures.
Document GST classification and collection
Evaluate registration, inter-State goods sales, marketplace onboarding and applicable section 52 TCS/section 9(5) exceptions; map GST invoice and credit-note events. Reconcile platform returns and TCS credits to electronic cash/credit records.
Commission warehouse-to-consumer traceability
Map inbound SKU batch, quality check, storage, pick/pack scan, tracking, customer delivery, reverse logistics and quarantine. Log counterfeit complaints, damaged packages and replacement-cost recovery from vendors.
Measure full landed unit economics
Include ads CAC, marketplace fees, shipping, return-to-origin (RTO), payment gateway, damaged replacements, warehousing and COD leakage. Run contribution margin by SKU, cohort and sales channel before increasing advertising.
What to do when something goes wrong
| Real-world problem | Action, evidence and remedy |
|---|---|
| BIS/QCO non-compliant item discovered | Stop listings and dispatch, isolate stock, confirm notification/product scope, document supplier corrective action and contact competent product regulator where required. |
| Large customer return spike | Split reason codes for fit/quality/delivery, quantify reverse freight and recoverable inventory, issue proper credit notes and fix upstream product descriptions. |
| Payment gateway reserves payout | Reconcile gross payments to settlement, identify holds and chargebacks with transaction IDs, preserve delivery evidence and escalate against gateway settlement terms. |
| Customer data leak | Contain credentials and access, preserve logs, assess applicable current notification and contractual reporting, notify affected parties/regulator when legally triggered. |
| Misleading MRP discount complaint | Verify historical actual selling prices and declarations, remove unsupported claims and document substantiation before re-advertising. |
Contract clauses and counterparty safeguards
- Control product IP, trademarks, images, artwork and who owns SKU registration
- Supplier indemnity for defective or uncertified goods with batch traceability
- Clearly allocate inventory loss, customer returns and chargeback costs
- Require accurate marketplace, platform and gateway settlement statements
- Specify customer personal-data role, security and breach cooperation

Stress tests, funding and month-end finance
| Stress / funding item | Illustrative result | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Volume −20% and unit cost +10% | ₹-85,680 monthly operating result | Reduce avoidable fixed costs, reprice or improve retained volume before adding debt |
| An extra 30 days of collection delay | ₹1,980,000 additional receivables | Profit is unchanged initially, but cash is locked up |
| Startup equipment cash | ₹650,000 | Separate capital expenditure from operating cost |
| Refundable lease deposit | ₹200,000 | Not an ordinary monthly expense |
| Opening liquidity buffer | ₹1,100,000 | A planning assumption—not proof the business is adequately funded |

Commercial and legal decisions before spending
Build the SKU compliance file before the listing
For every SKU record manufacturer/importer, country of origin, intended user, product composition, HS classification, packaging and claims. Screen the exact product against applicable BIS Quality Control Orders, food, drug/cosmetic and Legal Metrology rules. A supplier certificate must match the product, scope and manufacturing site; a certificate for a different model is not evidence. Keep the official applicable instrument and supplier documents alongside the product master.
Choose principal, marketplace seller or intermediary
Owning stock and selling in your own name differs from facilitating sales for another seller. Contracts, invoices, returns and the party bearing inventory risk should agree. A marketplace’s GST or consumer obligations do not automatically replace the seller’s. For a direct website, define the seller’s legal identity, total price, shipping, returns, grievance route and customer consent before accepting payment.
Use retained orders rather than dispatches
Track placed, prepaid, COD, shipped, delivered, returned-to-origin, customer-returned and retained orders as separate states. Price includes acquisition spend, payment fees, outward and return freight, damaged returns, marketplace charges and markdown loss. Calculate contribution per retained order and cash spent per acquired customer. Advertising ROAS can look strong while net contribution is negative; it does not measure taxes, returns or inventory ageing.
Control cash locked in inventory
Set reorder points from demand during lead time plus a justified safety stock. Separate available, reserved, in-transit, damaged, quarantined and return inventory. Review stock ageing by SKU; discounting slow stock can release cash but may destroy margin. Model a delayed marketplace settlement and a spike in COD failures before ordering another production batch.

Approvals: authority, process and completion evidence
Compulsory product conformity
Authority: BIS and sector regulator
Process: Identify exact SKU/standard, QCO effective date and manufacturing/importer certification scheme before procurement or import. Validate licence details against the supplier and product.
Completion evidence: SKU conformity file and scope-matched certificate; BIS QCO schedule.
Pack declarations and consumer information
Authority: Legal Metrology / consumer authority
Process: Screen packaged-commodity declarations and responsible manufacturer/packer/importer duties; align physical label, listing, price and grievance details.
Completion evidence: Approved artwork, label checklist, purchase/import records and listing screenshots.
Online seller GST
Authority: GST portal
Process: Test aggregate turnover, supply type, locations, inter-State activity and e-commerce exceptions/conditions. A blanket statement that every marketplace seller must register is not a substitute for the current exception tests.
Completion evidence: Documented eligibility, enrolment/registration as applicable and order-to-return reconciliation.
Foreign sourcing or export
Authority: DGFT / Customs / product regulator
Process: Confirm IEC applicability, ITC(HS) policy, product conformity and import documents before freight booking; separately assess food or other controlled-product clearance.
Completion evidence: IEC, tariff and policy memo, bill of entry/shipping bill and compliance documents.
Application passport: from eligibility to approval
Permissions, prescribed forms, fees and professional review
Consumer-facing sales controls
Facts that determine applicability: Record whether the business is a seller, marketplace, inventory-led platform or service intermediary.
Competent authority: Consumer-protection authorities; competent sector regulator
Application and prescribed form: Build the required seller/platform disclosures, complaint process and transaction records; these are not replaced by a generic trade certificate.
Fees and funding: Separate any product-registration fee from customer refunds, platform charges and litigation costs.
Completion evidence: Terms, invoice trail, grievance contact, refund logs, product/advertising substantiation.
Question for the relevant professional: Which duties belong to the platform and which to the seller under the applicable notified rules?
Product-by-product approval
Facts that determine applicability: List each SKU, manufacturer/importer, intended use and packaging/claims.
Competent authority: BIS and the actual product regulator; FSSAI for food where triggered
Application and prescribed form: Map the current QCO/product scope or food KoB before choosing a certification/licensing application.
Fees and funding: A product/plant/scheme-specific schedule is needed; do not assign one universal D2C licence fee.
Completion evidence: SKU applicability note, certificate scope/model/manufacturing site, label artwork and supporting tests.
Question for the relevant professional: Does a QCO, food, cosmetics, medical-device or other special regime apply to this actual SKU?
Food platform or food-import branch
Facts that determine applicability: Distinguish owning a food-commerce platform from merely supplying food through another marketplace.
Competent authority: FSSAI / FoSCoS
Application and prescribed form: Use the relevant food KoB; the schedule lists importer/e-commerce central categories, not a blanket turnover exemption.
Fees and funding: Schedule lists Rs 7,500/year for the importer/e-commerce KoB. Confirm the entity actually falls in that KoB.
Completion evidence: Entity/platform role, supplier and premises licences, application and approval evidence.
Question for the relevant professional: Which food-licensing categories attach to the platform, seller, importer and storage operator?
Prepare the decision file
Daily controls, review rhythm and escalation
Daily: payment/order reconciliation, cancellation queue, promised delivery ageing and inventory movements.
Weekly: retained-order contribution by channel, RTO/return reason, advertisement cohort payback and supplier defect rate.
Monthly: stock ageing and impairment, platform withheld balances, tax reconciliation, product-certificate changes and customer grievance closure.
Respond to an incident without destroying evidence
Exit, sale, closure and continuing liabilities
Freeze new advertisements and unfulfillable orders before winding down. Clear refunds, warranties and marketplace reserves; reconcile seller stock held at fulfilment centres; notify customers of the support arrangement. Transfer brand, domain and product files by contract and review privacy/consent before transferring customer lists.
Closing evidence and liabilities
Business-specific questions answered
Is a marketplace seller always exempt below the normal GST threshold?
No blanket rule applies; evaluate section 24 and the precise relaxations and conditions.
Does a BIS licence for one SKU cover all goods?
No. Certification and mandatory QCO scope are product- and standard-specific.
Does a return eliminate all tax entries automatically?
No. Issue and reconcile valid return/credit-note evidence under the tax rules.
What is the best leading metric?
Contribution per successfully delivered and retained order, not merely gross merchandise value.
The answers below address common real-world situations. Each must still be matched to the operator’s actual facts, current tax notification and State/local rules.
Do I need a trade licence just to sell on Instagram?
Online selling does not automatically waive municipal, State establishment, sectoral product, consumer or GST obligations. Identify whether any premises, storage, employees or products create a licence trigger.
Can I operate a D2C store from my home?
The location must still be reviewed for permissible storage, residential use, courier pickups and hazardous/food inventory. Invoices and registration should reflect actual business facts.
Is GST registration always optional below the normal turnover limit?
No universal answer: goods, interstate sales, e-commerce platform conditions, special relaxations and mandatory-registration categories change the analysis. Save the precise exemption notification before treating any sale as unregistered.
Who pays GST when the marketplace collects the price?
Marketplace collection alone is not a blanket shift of supplier GST. Distinguish operator TCS under section 52, notified operator-paid services under section 9(5), and supplier-output tax.
Can my brand show an inflated crossed-out price?
Price comparisons and discounts should be genuine, supported and compliant with consumer, Legal Metrology and unfair-trade-practice rules. Retain pricing history and evidence.
What should go on a pre-packaged product label?
Requirements depend on goods category. Build a checklist for packaged commodity declarations, manufacturer/importer, net quantity, MRP, consumer contact, country of origin when applicable and category-specific declarations.
How should refunds appear in bookkeeping?
Preserve original order and invoice, return authorisation, credit note where permitted, proof of refund, recovered stock position, gateway/marketplace deductions and revenue adjustments.
What is RTO and why does it destroy margins?
Return-to-origin occurs where an order cannot be delivered or is refused. Include outward freight, reverse freight, packaging loss, potential damage, customer acquisition and cash-handling costs per failed order.
How do I protect my brand against copycats?
Consider trade mark search/application and contract ownership, monitor marketplace takedown procedures, preserve artwork/design creation records and avoid infringement of competitors.
Can my warehouse ship from a third-party site?
Yes commercially if contracted, but map actual possession, product compliance, goods movement, tax registration, inventory insurance and liability for loss at the site.
What if an imported product is seized by Customs?
Obtain formal reason/order, secure importer product and HS documentation, consider valuation/classification/labelling remedies, and use the notified reply/appeal route within statutory deadlines.
How do I know if online ads are profitable?
Compare blended and new-customer contribution after advertising, shipping, gateway charges and expected returns; attributed ROAS alone overstates profit.
Is a high ROAS proof that a D2C product is profitable?
No. ROAS compares attributed sales with advertising spend, not profit. Recompute using retained sales after cancellations and returns, product cost, logistics, channel fees and fulfilment. Compare contribution with fixed overhead and cash tied up in stock.
Can I rely on my supplier saying the product is BIS approved?
Ask for the certificate/licence and match the model, standard, factory and validity/scope against the applicable QCO. The BIS mandatory-certification list is the starting point; not every product needs certification, and one certified product does not cover the supplier’s entire catalogue.
Must every small marketplace seller have a GST registration?
Registration depends on the supply and current notified exceptions, including conditions for eligible small sellers. Document the turnover, State, inter-State position and platform enrolment conditions instead of assuming either universal registration or universal exemption.
How should COD return-to-origin costs be priced?
Allocate forward freight, return freight, handling, lost packaging and unrecoverable product damage over retained COD orders. Use a separate COD contribution calculation; dividing only by dispatched orders understates the cost of failed delivery.
When should prepaid collections be recognised as income?
Track the collection as an advance until the relevant performance obligation is satisfied under the applicable accounting policy. GST time-of-supply and income recognition are separate questions. Maintain an unfulfilled-order liability and a refundable cash reserve.
Is a website return policy allowed to say no refunds under any circumstances?
Do not use a blanket exclusion to override statutory consumer remedies for defects, misdescription or failure of service. Explain legitimate conditions, inspection and timelines clearly, and maintain a grievance process consistent with applicable consumer rules.
Can I change a product label without changing the online listing?
That creates inconsistent information. Approve label, images, claims, quantity, seller/importer identity and price together, version the SKU and remove obsolete listing material. Also consider whether a composition/model change affects an existing approval.
Should marketplace TCS be included as a selling expense?
A tax credit/collection balance is not automatically a final expense. Reconcile the marketplace statement to the relevant tax ledger and return. Fees, withholding and blocked or unrecoverable amounts need separate accounting treatment.
How do I evaluate a warehouse offer from a marketplace?
Compare storage and aged-inventory fees, pick/pack cost, return processing, insurance, inventory access, shrinkage allocation, taxes and exit charges. Confirm where your stock sits and whether that affects registrations or premises disclosures.
Can a lower import purchase price still give a worse margin?
Yes. Include freight, insurance, customs duties, non-creditable taxes, testing, clearance, demurrage, currency movement and warranty cost. Recoverable tax affects cash timing even where it is not part of final cost.
What should a product-recall file contain?
Affected SKU/batches, suppliers, buyers and distribution locations; risk assessment; notification decisions; stop-sale instructions; refund/replacement plan; stock disposition and completion evidence. Do not delete complaints or relist the same unsafe batch under a new SKU.
What is the minimum reporting pack for an investor?
Show retained-order revenue, channel contribution, repeat cohorts, CAC and payback assumptions, return/RTO rates, inventory ageing, reconciled cash and compliance exposures. Separate management estimates from audited numbers and do not treat gross merchandise value as your revenue without analysing the selling role.
State/UT and city-level applicability test
- Is the chosen premises permitted for this exact business and capacity?
- Which State, city and sector permit applies to each activity and each operating location?
- Are there fire, building, waste, signage, labour or medical safety conditions for this site?
- Do thresholds, professional qualifications, inspection dates or renewals differ here?
- Has any 2026 amendment commenced, been notified or changed the relevant form/fee?
- Who is legally responsible for each filing, complaint, accident and customer refund?
What to check when a law or business model changes
Official sources and prescribed-form routes
Use the instrument applicable to the actual activity, jurisdiction and date. A directory is a route to the competent authority, not an individual licence determination.
BIS — products under compulsory certification
QCO, effective date, product scope and certification scheme must match the actual SKU and manufacturing site.
India Code — Consumer Protection Act, 2019
Primary Act; read the separately applicable e-commerce, advertising and other subordinate instruments for the activity and date.
GST Council — official Central GST repository routes
Choose the exact operative Act, rule, classification and dated notification; a directory or Council recommendation is not the tax entry itself.
FoSCoS Kind of Business eligibility and annual fee schedule
Schedule updated 1 April 2026; use the exact activity row, premises and annual fee. Category-specific conditions override generic turnover assumptions.
DGFT — IEC, foreign-trade policy, ITC(HS), SCOMET and eBRC
Goods and services have different IEC triggers; select the actual product policy and transaction.
Gazette — DPDP Act phased commencement, G.S.R. 843(E)
13 November 2025; immediate, one-year and eighteen-month provision groups. Do not treat every substantive duty as already commenced.
National Single Window System — Know Your Approvals and State portals
Navigation framework; not a substitute for municipal or sector permissions.
CBDT — Income-tax Act, 2025 commencement
Act effective 1 April 2026; Rules notified 20 March 2026. Match the tax year before using earlier section/form numbers.
Ministry of Labour — four Labour Codes commencement
21 November 2025 commencement; applicable Central/State rules and transition must be considered.
