CFO Health Check Tool

Practical CFO playbook for finance leaders, founders and controllers. Built for operating discipline, decision quality and audit-ready documentation.

What this module solves

It gives a CFO, or a board evaluating one, a structured way to diagnose whether the finance function's fundamentals — close speed, control maturity, reporting reliability — are actually sound, rather than relying on a subjective impression.

Practical examples

Example 1

A health check scores close speed, control documentation and board-reporting timeliness separately rather than folding them into one finance-maturity number: a fast close built on weak controls is a different risk profile from a slow close with strong controls, and combining them hides which problem to fix first.

Example 2

A newly-hired CFO's first 30-day health check finds three different revenue figures circulating: the books, the MIS, and the sales team's own tracker. Reconciling those three to one number is a higher-priority fix than any dashboard redesign.

Q&A

QuestionFinin2min answer
Who should own this? The CFO office should own the framework; process owners own inputs and finance controls the review.
What is the biggest red flag?Different versions of the same number across MIS, books, bank, tax filings or board material.
How frequently should it be reviewed?Monthly for operating items, quarterly for board-level governance, annually for design refresh.

Finin2min crux

Crux: A CFO health check is only useful if it produces a specific, dated remediation plan for each weak area found — a diagnosis with no follow-through is just a longer way of confirming what everyone already suspected.
