## What changed
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a fresh package of transport infrastructure on August 19. Four railway multitracking projects across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are estimated to cost ₹9,450 crore and will add about 410 km to the Indian Railways network.
Separately, the CCEA approved upgrading the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi-Sonbarsa section of NH-22 in Bihar to four-lane standard on Hybrid Annuity Mode. The road project has a stated capital cost of ₹3,590.73 crore and a stated length of 82.578 km. Together, the two approvals amount to roughly ₹13,040.73 crore, or about ₹13,041 crore.
## Why it matters
Rail capacity additions can improve freight throughput and reduce bottlenecks, while the NH-22 upgrade strengthens road connectivity toward the Nepal border and the national freight network. For listed infrastructure and construction companies, however, cabinet approval is only the starting point; tendering, award structure and execution timelines matter.
## Finin2min takeaway
Use the official project costs, not speculative beneficiary lists. Investors should wait for tender and award disclosures before assigning revenue to contractors.
