Apple and Alphabet can compete for the same investor capital or customer budget while producing revenue in different ways. Begin with the contract, customer, unit of sale, revenue-recognition rule and capital required to deliver it.
Apple monetises hardware plus services around an installed base. Alphabet monetises intent and attention, with cloud as a growing second engine. Regulation of search defaults and app stores can redistribute economics between them.
